The Council is preparing a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) setting out the standards and requirements for improving air quality in Croydon. The SPD will provide technical advice for planning applications that could have an impact on local air quality, identifying circumstances when an air quality assessment will be required to accompany a development proposal and the assessment process involved. It will also provide detailed guidance on designing for the control and prevention of atmospheric pollution and the circumstances when air quality conditions and s106 planning obligations will be sought.
This consultation document is not the SPD but a Scoping Report which informs its preparation. It is the first step in undertaking a Sustainability Appraisal (SA); a form of assessment which considers the potential implications of the SPD from a social, environmental and economic perspective and informs its preparation.
